      <title>It’s ‘Put on Purple Day’ for lupus today</title>

	A local woman is raising awareness about lupus during Lupus Awareness Month. Approximately 1.5 million Americans and at least 5 million people worldwide are affected by this unpredictable and sometimes fatal disease.&lt;br /&gt;
	Pat McKinnon, a lupus survivor, is asking that the local community join the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) by wearing purple today in support of &amp;#8220;Put on Purple Day,&amp;#8221; a national campaign for lupus awareness.&lt;br /&gt;
	On Thursday night at Brodie Field, supporters gathered wearing their purple shirts: &amp;#8220;Tift County was painted purple by lupus survivors and their family and friend supporters,&amp;#8221; McKinnon said.&lt;/p&gt;

	The AR Center, part of the Reading Capital of the World initiative, is an annual program of the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence. Each summer, students and adults take AR tests on books they have read, amassing points for themselves and for local schools.&lt;/p&gt;
