Man dies in Brookfield

TIFTON — A 38-year-old Tifton man died at a pond near Brookfield Wednesday morning.

According to David Haire, spokesman for the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, Tony Banks, 38, died near a pond located on property addressed 2205 U.S. Highway 82 E. Haire, giving information written by a deputy who responded to the scene, said that the person who called E-911 for help at approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday stated that “a male known to him had drowned.”

The incident remains under investigation by the TCSO. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Josh Hendrix, Tift County’s coroner, said that the man was deceased when he arrived at the scene.
