Before the tornado warning, Vickie Hickman, deputy director of Tift County's Emergency Management Agency, told The Gazette that strong winds are expected between 6 and 9 tonight from the front coming through and then it's expected to ease up with the weather being noticeably cooler. “We’re watching it closely,” Hickman said.
Tift County Sheriff's Office investigating missing persons case
The Tift County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a missing person report on Crystal Lynne Wiler Hendrix.

Arrests made in shooting incidents last Friday – More arrests to come
Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough said Wednesday that officers with the department's Criminal Investigation Division, along with agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are continuing to look into a homicide that happened last Friday on Short Street in Tift County.
Manhunt called off Thursday afternoon
The manhunt in Omega for three suspects from Colquitt County was called off at 5 p.m. Thursday. The massive search began sometime around lunch between Omega-Eldorado Road and Omega-Ellenton Road in a wooded area, southeast of Omega, following an incident that occurred in Colquitt County, which then led to Tift County.
A huge police dragnet spread across this metropolitan area Friday in search of the 19-year-old college student wanted for the Boston Marathon bombings after a night of chaotic gunfire that killed his companion suspect. A police officer was also killed and another seriously wounded.
Rape suspect arrested
Rape suspect Quntavion Dewayne Spivey, 20, of Tifton, who was wanted by the Tifton Police Department, has been arrested for the alleged rape of three Tifton women.
Several Tift County elementary students were injured Wednesday afternoon in a school bus accident on Wiley Branch Road after the bus driver accidentally ran the bus into a ditch in an attempt to avoid hitting a dog.

A father and son squabble turned ugly Friday afternoon, ending with the son taken to a local hospital, and the father airlifted to Macon.
