Georgia 'Idol' Internet sensation to perform at Grammys

ATLANTA — A Georgia civil rights veteran who became an Internet sensation with an audition on "American Idol" is taking his talents to the Grammys.

"General" Larry Platt performed his original song "Pants on the Ground" for the judges at the national talent competition. But while the 63-year-old was far beyond the show's age limit, he still managed to score major recognition on the Web.

Platt's manager, Pinky Brittain, confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his client will perform his song on the red carpet before the Grammy Awards today.

The song is a call to arms against low-slung pants. Platt says he and his civil rights colleagues sacrificed too much for today's youth to walk around with sagging trousers.
