Tift BOE agrees to not renew teacher’s contract

TIFTON — At a hearing last week, the Tift County Board of Education agreed with the school superintendent’s recommendation not to renew a science teacher’s contract.

Following testimony Tuesday about how he approached his duties and data regarding his students’ test scores, Terry Siniard, a science teacher at J.T. Reddick Middle School, will not have his teachers’ contract renewed.

Superintendent Patrick Atwater had made the recommendation.

Attorney John Holland of Ashburn served as the hearing officer for the matter, local attorney John Reinhardt represented the school system and attorney Rodney Allen of Moultrie represented Siniard.

School board members present for the hearing were John Smith, Kim Rutland, Marian Richbourg and Lester Potts.

“I’m a pastor and a father, and I’ve been teaching for 16 years,” Siniard told the board. “I’m not saying I’m the best, but I do my best every single time. I know God has called for me to teach.”
