Tift County unemployment rate drops 0.2 percent

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the unemployment rate for Tift County dropped from 9.6 percent in October to 9.4 percent in November.

However, the preliminary unemployment rate in the Southern Georgia region, which includes Tift County, was unchanged at 9.7 percent from October to November. The rate was 10.3 percent in November 2011.

Here is a look at other counties in the Tiftarea and how they compare from October to November.

They are Ben Hill, unchanged at 12.5 percent; Berrien, 9.5 percent in October to 10.4 percent in November; Cook, 10.6 percent in October to 10.9 percent in November; Irwin, unchanged at 12.5 percent; and Turner, 8.8 percent in October to 8.6 percent in November.

Worth is not included in the Southern Region, but is in the Southwest Georgia Region. The unemployment rate in October for Worth was 8.6 percent in October and 8.7 percent in November.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.5 percent in November, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 8.7 percent in October. The rate was 9.5 percent in November a year ago.

Statewide, there were 3,984,000 jobs in November, up 9,600, or two-tenths of a percentage point, from 3,974,400 in October. Over the year, Georgia gained 61,900 jobs, or 1.6 percent, from 3,922,100 in November 2011.
