TIFTON —
An armed robbery, as well as an alleged kidnapping and aggravated assault, were reported over the weekend to local authorities.
Maj. Bobby Brannen at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office stated in an e-mail that an armed robbery occurred at approximately 10:03 p.m. at the Citgo located in the 2100 block of South Main Street. He said a black male armed with a handgun took the money from the store’s cash register.
Brannen explained that the complainant stated that his cell phone, wallet containing his credit cards, debit card and driver’s license were also taken. The complainant reported that there were two other black males with the robber. The three suspects left the store on foot.
According to Brannen, the armed suspect fired at a vehicle as he was leaving the scene. The bullet struck the mirror of the vehicle, which was occupied at the time. He stated that no one was injured.
“We’re very thankful for that,” Brannen said.
Lt. Chad Davis and Investigator Christi Brannon have been assigned this investigation.
In another matter, Brannen stated that officers responded to Tift Regional Medical Center and took the report of an alleged kidnapping and aggravated assault at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
He said the victim reported that at approximately 2:45 a.m. Friday, he was walking on Fletcher Road when he was forcefully put into a dark colored car by three black males.
The victim reported that he was cut by his attackers. He had a laceration to his forehead and cuts on his hands, Brannen stated.
He said the victim further explained that he was carried from Fletcher Road to a cotton field located off Highway 41 South and was put out there, and his attackers left in the dark colored car.
The victim was treated and released from TRMC.
During the investigation, Brannen stated, it was determined that the victim was wanted by the Worth County Sheriff’s Office on charges of possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and obstruction. The man was released to them after being interviewed by TCSO investigators.
Investigator Adam Tanner has been assigned this case.
