TIFTON —
Fun student assemblies for seventh and eighth grade students were held at Eighth Street Middle School (ESMS) on November 15 with student recognition as well as the possibility of exciting prizes. Students were allowed to attend if they were passing all six classes, had no more than three absences in any class, and had good behavior.
The assemblies started off with recognition of the football, cheerleading, cross country and softball teams. The sideline and competition cheer teams also performed routines for their peers.
Dr. Chad Stone, ESMS principal, then played his special rendition of the “Let’s Make a Deal” game show with students whose names were drawn from a list of those who met the criteria of good grades, behavior and attendance. Students whose names were drawn were allowed to choose a teacher to compete with them. The student/teacher teams had the option of taking the prize in a box assigned them or taking the “deal” Dr. Stone offered in place of the box.
Making the choice all the more dramatic was the surprise that two boxes contained Apple iTouch devices. Stone says, no matter how tempting the deal he offered was, most students opted to keep their box in hopes it contained an iTouch. Ultimately, the iTouch winners were Stephen Kendrick, Wran Wishum, Madison Robinson and Abrian Dennis. Stone says the assemblies were a big hit and that he plans to hold more in the future.
