Valdosta Police Commander Brian Childress confirmed early Tuesday morning that the suspect wanted in the shooting of his estranged wife and daughter in Valdosta has been apprehended and is in police custody in Virginia. According to Childress, they had a general idea of where the suspect was headed when he left the city after the shooting early Monday morning and were able to alert authorities in Virginia, who took Roy Mandell Smith into custody around 4 a.m. today.

Smith will be extradited to Valdosta to face charges in the shooting, which seriously wounded his 37-year old wife and 16-year old daughter, said Childress.
