TIFTON —
The second annual Tift Theatre Fall Bluegrass Ball is coming Saturday, Nov. 5 to once again raise money for the Tift Theatre.
Local attorney Patrick Kunes, along with friends Conner Bowen, Carson Bowen, Kyle Rhodes and Floyd Moon, are volunteering their time as the event committee to make this fundraising event a success.
“The theater is a gem in Tifton,” Kunes said. “We wanted to establish a yearly music event to offer entertainment to the community and to also reinvest in downtown, as well as raising money for the theater and keeping them vibrant.”
Kunes said the doors will open at 7 p.m. and the music will start at 8 p.m. Also, there will be a VIP reception with food and drinks at 5 p.m. at Mi-Lady Bakery.
Tickets cost $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $50 for VIP — which includes pre-show food and drinks, early admission to the show and reserved seating. Kunes said a limited number of complimentary drinks will be served at the show.
Tickets can be purchased at Jack Stone’s Western Auto and Mi-Lady Bakery. All proceeds will go towards the Tift Theatre.
Sponsors for the event include Mi-Lady Bakery, MRS Homecare, Kunes Real Estate, Brian York Agency, Ashley Office World, Spud Bowen & Associates and South Georgia Pain Management.
Packway Handle Band out of Athens will be the performing band at the show. The group members are Tom Baker, banjo and vocals; Josh Erwin, guitar and vocals; Andrew Heaton, fiddle and vocals; Zach McCoy, bass; and Michael Paynter, mandolin and vocals.
They have won many national awards, including the Reader’s Choice Flagpole Bluegrass band/American band of the year award consecutively from 2002-2008, and they were finalists at the Telluride bluegrass competition in 2002 and 2003 and then taking second place in 2004.
According to their website, Packway Handle Band is known to provide songwriting, clever choice and arrangement of bluegrass traditionals, and unexpected covers with a “crackling energy.” The website states, “If you get an idea of what Packway Handle is early in a show, you’ll probably change your mind several times before they’re done.”
Kunes said he will also be promoting the fundraising event by going on the local radio station, WTIF, to give away tickets to a lucky someone and their companion.
