In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, approximately 30 volunteers hit the streets Saturday morning to participate in Tift County Commissioner Melissa Chevers’ “One Street At A Time” clean-up.
Volunteers included community service people, Tifton Housing Authority and Keep Tift Beautiful board members. Prior to the clean-up, KTB had their Adopt-A-Mile clean-up early that morning starting at the Leroy Rogers Senior Center on Second Street to I-75 and other areas. Community service people helped KTB as well.
Houston Shultz with KTB commented that hopefully, they’re influencing them to not litter.
Volunteers picked up trash in the 500 block of 23rd Street West, the area of Captain’s Point Mobile Home Park and also Lake Say-Hi, located at the corner of Old Omega Road and 319 South.
Chevers thanked Aurelious Mike, who owns rental property in the local area, for offering to feed all of the volunteers at the local restaurant Wingmaster Sports Bar & Grill. Mike paid for 300 wings and enough lemonade and water for the group.
“That’s so awesome,” Chevers said, thrilled.
She stated that Mike was just driving by as they were picking up trash and offered to feed all of the volunteers.
“That’s what I mean about our community — we have a loving community,” she said. “He’s a prime example of what this community is all about.”
