Five sewer spills reported due to rain

CNHI

TIFTON — Scott Murphy of ESG Operations, Inc., which oversees the Tifton-Tift County Waste Water Treatment Plant, informed the Gazette Wednesday afternoon of five sewage spills throughout the community, most likely caused by the immense amount of rain the area has received this week.

Murphy said the one major spill was at the waste water treatment plant itself, which featured over 10,000 gallons.

The other four are considered minor, however.

They are at: 24th Street and Ridge Ave.; the lift station near the Georgia Museum of Agriculture; the Gum Creek Lift Station; and Golden Road at Hwy. 41.

Murphy emphasized the spills are not affecting businesses or residences.

Workers are cleaning the areas in quesiton and will work to determine the cause, "but we are assuming it's the rain," said Murphy.
