While employment stories recently have been a bit depressing in the wake of an economic downturn, one Moultrie industry is looking for help with jobs immediately available.
Riverside Manufacturing Co. officials said Wednesday that it can put 75 people to work right away.
“We’re looking for people with at least a year’s experience,” said Riverside CEO Jerry Vereen. Riverside, a garment manufacturer, is one of Moultrie’s top employers.
Vereen said his firm has just subcontracted its first government project to manufacture uniforms for the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agency.
“We’re talking hundreds of thousands of garments,” said Vereen.
He said this contract is for three years with the possibility of extensions.
Vereen said this is a great opportunity for people who have worked at Riverside previously or who have worked in other sewing plants.
“This project should have begun last September, but it was delayed,” said Vereen.
Some 75 workers already have been put on line for this project which would make the total employment relative to this addition come to 150 workers.
These are field uniforms and are very complex with lots of pockets and insignias. Vereen said some retooling has been required to meet these demands.
“But that’s okay,” he added. “We need the help and we need it fast.”
Vereen said his firm has been actively contacting former employees but many of them have cellular phones now instead of land line phones and it’s difficult to locate them.
