Police officers and sheriff’s deputies responded to several reports of domestic violence, illegal drugs and vandalism over the weekend.
Some of those reports are listed below.
• A Tifton police officer reported that he was patrolling the Tifton Mall at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday when a deputy with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office walked up to him and showed him his identification. According to the TPD officer’s report, the deputy pointed out that a young man’s brown jacket pockets were bulging. The officer stated that the deputy told him that the suspect had about a half pound of marijuana in the pocket of his jacket.
According to the officer, the suspect, Jerrick Lemonte Watts, 19, 2731 S. Central Ave., began walking toward him as he came out of the front door of Athletic Attic. The officer wrote that he stopped and asked Watts for his identification and Watts attempted to run.
The officer wrote that he and the deputy tacked Watts and wrestled him to the floor as Watts continued to turn and twist and pull away until he was eventually handcuffed. The officer wrote that he checked Watts’ pockets and found three large bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. He was transported to the Tift County jail and booked on felony charges of possession/manufacture/distribution of marijuana and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.
• A 39-year-old woman reported Sunday that her husband dragged her from her vehicle and into the roadway at Old Omega Road Apartments. According to the police report, the woman told the officer that her husband continued dragging her across the roadway on Cypress Drive, pulling out her hair extensions. The officer stated in his report that the woman’s husband was not on the scene when he arrived and noted that there were hair extensions all over the driveway of one of the apartments. The officer stated in his report that he told the woman he would take photographs of the abrasions on her back and advised her on how to apply for a warrant and restraining order. The woman, according to the report, would not let anyone photograph her injuries and refused and didn’t want to file a report. The officer wrote that the man assaulted her because he accused her of cheating on him.
• A TPD officer reported early Monday morning that he was on patrol when he noticed that the Coca- Cola vending machine on the south end of Piggly Wiggly (1810 N. Tift Ave.) appeared to have been vandalized. He noted that the bill changer had been cut or pried out and that the mechanism that collects bills had been emptied.
• A woman who lives on Richardson Street in Ty Ty reported Friday that someone had broken the latch on the sliding glass window of her vehicle in order to get inside the vehicle. No access was made, according to the Tift County Sheriff’s Office deputy who wrote the report.
• A passerby called E-911 Saturday afternoon to report that he rode by Joe’s Pawn Shop, 4602 U.S. Highway 82 W., Ty Ty, and saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. The deputy noted that when he arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames. The Tifton-Tift County Fire Dept. extinguished the blaze.
• A woman reported Friday that a man beat her in the head, legs, stomach and back with a chair unit the chair broke and cut one of her fingers. According to the deputy’s report, the woman told him that the man cut the telephone lines so that she couldn’t call E-911 and that he would not let her leave for several hours and when he did, he told her to leave before he finished killing her. The deputy noted that substance abuse was involved.
