Deason Fund presents check to TCHS

TIFTON — On behalf of the Jay Deason Fund, a check in the amount of $1,963.65 was recently presented to Tift County High School. This contribution will be used to provide all students access to an award winning tutorial called Study Island.

Study Island is an academic support program designed to help students be more successful in school, improve scores on important performance standards and master end-of-course and high school graduation tests. Students participating in the 21st Century Community Learning Center After School Program, as well as all TCHS students, will benefit from access to this valuable tutorial instrument.

With the continued support of many local businesses, individuals and volunteers, the Jay Deason Fund has been able to contribute (net) over $45,000 to worthy youth-based causes since its initial event in May 2007 and look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of local children in the memory of their good friend.

The Jay Deason Fund supports the needs of children and students through ongoing contributions to a number of local programs, including the Jay Deason Memorial Scholarships to aspiring students in early childhood education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and sponsorship of the “Tools for School” program, which provides supplies and educational necessities for needy children in the Tift County School System.

Since its creation in 2008, the “Tools for School” program has provided $13,000 to the Tift County School System, which has been carefully dispersed by the system’s three school social workers. Most recently, the program has begun to specifically target the nearly 60 children in the Tift County School System who are classified as homeless and considered to have the most immediate need for assistance to support their education.

The Jay Deason Fund prides itself in seeing that the highest percentage possible of each and every contribution reaches the end recipient, thus all time is 100 percent volunteer and there are no administrative costs.

To give to the Jay Deason Fund and their local causes, contributions can be mailed to the Tift County Commission on Children and Youth, c/o The JDF at 418 N. Ridge, Tifton, Ga. 31794. Individuals and businesses are also encouraged to participate in the JDF’s annual spring golf tournament at Spring Hill Country Club.
