Steve Sumner of Steve Sumner Farms in Omega was welcomed on to the Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association (GFVGA) Board of Directors last week in Savannah at the annual SE Regional Educational Conference. Other new board members recognized included Drew Echols of Jaemor Farms and Duke Lane III of Lane Southern Orchards.
GFVGA board members are given multiple responsibilities within the association, including membership recruitment, promotion and awareness of the produce industry as a whole, and speaking on behalf of their members in legislative forums like Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
Charles Hall, GFVGA executive director, is excited about the new faces on the board and the individual experience and passion that they bring.
“Our Board of Directors set the tone for the year,” he said. “It will be great to have [Sumner] help push our other directors to participate and actively promote the produce industry and the association.”
