Valdosta detective expected to recover following shooting

VALDOSTA — Two Valdosta residents are charged with various crimes following the execution of a search warrant and shooting of a detective Friday.



Around 8:57 a.m., while serving a search warrant in the 800 block of Ponderosa Drive, a detective with the Valdosta Police Department Narcotics Unit was shot in the hand, reports stated.



Police are not releasing the name of the detective but said the detective was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by another officer and was later treated and released.



The detective is expected to make a full recovery, according to reports.



Javon McCloud, 27, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of MDMA (ecstasy) with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, reports stated.



Imari Smith, 24, was arrested and also charged with possession of MDMA (ecstasy) with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, say reports.
