TIFTON —
The fall Concert in the Gardens series is coming to a close with the Gospel Starlights performing at noon Friday in Tifton Gardens. The free weekly concerts are sponsored by The Tifton Gazette and Main Street Tifton.
The Gospel Starlights is a local traditional, contemporary gospel group consisting of five brothers and sisters who started singing in the home of their parents, Bennie Frank Hill and Betty Gean Hill, in June 1990.
It began when they were sitting in the living room discussing the idea of forming a gospel group. The mother looked toward the heavenly stars for an answer and coined the title, the Gospel Starlights. At the time, the father was the only musician who played lead guitar and the group was 10 members strong. But as time went on, group members left. The group pressed on with the Lord’s blessing and He made a way for them to continue with their message to spread the Gospel with the hopes of expanding the kingdom of God with souls being saved.
There are currently five group members: Andrew Hill, lead and background vocals who plays keyboard; Tiffany Hill, lead and background vocals; Lowindy Barber, background vocals; Victoria Alexander, background vocals; and the mother, Betty, background vocals.
The Gospel Starlights have learned that through Christ, all things are possible. This is why they are thankful to have been ministering for 16 years throughout South Georgia and surrounding states.
The Gospel Starlights have participated on fifth Sunday with the Singing Unions, which is an organization that consists of about four groups that get together on the evenings of fifth Sundays to host benefit concerts for the needy. Also, they are active in supporting the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Feed the Children, the Prison Fellowship Society and local community charity events. They believe in sharing the love of God to all.
This will be their first time performing in Tifton Gardens. Friday’s audience can expect to hear traditional, contemporary gospel from the group.
The Gospel Starlights have a CD and live DVD entitled, “Be Glad and Rejoice in the Lord.” The CD is currently available on iTunes, Amazon.com and Cdfreedom.com. Both the CD and DVD are available at Cdfreedom.com.
People are encouraged to bring their lunches and a lawn chair or blanket to the concert and to park across Main Street in the Cato Knight parking lot. The free concerts will resume in the spring.
