TIFTON —
A three-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 319 at Wiley Branch Road resulted in two people being transported to Tift Regional Medical Center and a child being transported to Macon Medical Center. The Georgia State Patrol, Tift County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Services and Air Evac Lifeteam air ambulance service responded to the scene.
SFC Stan Stalnaker, Tifton’s GSP post commander, said at approximately 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, 21-year-old James Douglas Shannon of Ocilla, driving a 1979 Lincoln Continental, was traveling east on Wiley Branch Road when he failed to yield the right way at a stop sign, striking a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 41-year-old Jared Steven Strickland of Tifton.
Stalnaker said Strickland, who was traveling south on U.S. Highway 319, was struck on the right side. The impact knocked the pickup into the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 319. Strickland’s vehicle was then struck in the front by a 2004 Ford Freestar van, driven by Casey Ann Wilkinson of Rhine, that was traveling north on U.S. Highway 319. The impact knocked the pickup truck’s front, right tire off.
Stalnaker said Wilkinson had two back seat passengers, Britny Spires of Rhine and a 19-month-old female child, who were both ejected from the van. Wilkinson was wearing a seat belt; however Spires and the 19-month-old child were not.
He stated that Wilkinson and Spires were transported to Tift Regional Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services for treatment, and the child was transported to Macon Medical Center by Air Evac for precautionary measures.
When asked if any of the injuries were life threatening, Stalnaker stated, “As far as we know, we think everyone is going to be okay.”
He noted that Strickland had visible injuries but wasn’t transported to the hospital; he sustained scrapes from broken glass. Shannon was not injured. He is being charged with failure to yield the right away.
