OMEGA — An Omega man stabbed Sunday afternoon was listed in stable condition Tuesday at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Jose Lopez of C.S. Powell Road in Omega was first transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment and then transported to the Macon hospital for treatment of the stab wound that punctured one of his lungs.
A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was called to a house on C.S. Powell Road in Omega about 4:40 p.m. Sunday. When he arrived, he was met by several Hispanic men and an officer with the Omega Police Department.
Before the deputy arrived, he was told Tift County EMS had taken Lopez for treatment of a stab wound. Through witnesses, he found out Lopez and another Hispanic man had been drinking beer at the house and got into an argument.
During the argument, the assailant pulled what appeared to be a knife and stabbed Lopez once in the chest. After stabbing Lopez, the man took Lopez’s wallet out of his pocket and stole an unknown amount of cash. He then fled into the woods, and he was not seen after that.
