TIFTON — Local talent Kirsten Underwood will be the featured performer at noon Friday in this week’s Concert in the Garden series downtown at Tifton Gardens. The free concerts are sponsored by The Tifton Gazette and Main Street Tifton.
Underwood is a senior at Tift County High School and was recently nominated to the TCHS homecoming court. She is a member of the TCHS Acapella Choir, the Eighth Street Singing Company and is in her sixth and final year as a member of the Georgia 4-H performing arts group, Clovers and Company.
In August, Underwood fulfilled a longtime dream and put together her own band called Kirsten Underwood and Little Creek with Brent Saunders on lead guitar, Trent Lumpkin on bass guitar, and Andy Wilson on drums, all from Worth County. Friday’s Concert in the Garden will be the group’s first Tifton performance.
Those who attend Friday’s concert will hear the group perform country and southern rock. The talented teenager also writes her own country music.
They will also be debuting Underwood’s original song, “72 Chevy.” It is a project she has been working on for several years and with the help of her new band has finally been able to bring together.
“I’m really excited about being able to play with my band,” Underwood said, “I know my fans will enjoy it.”
Underwood recently performed three shows at the Perry Fair and will be performing at the UGA tent on Thursday at the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition. She and her band will also be the headlining band for the Lean-Ox Festival at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in Lenox.
The free Concert in the Garden series will end next Friday with a performance by Three For One. Bring a lawn chair and lunch.
All in attendance are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the concert to donate to the Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc. All collected items will be given to needy families within the community.
