Full day of fun planned in Alapaha

ALAPAHA — Activities planned for the 24th annual Alapaha Station Celebration will include gospel and bluegrass music, arts and craft and more.

This year’s theme is “In God We Still Trust.”

The Reggie Sadler Family and the Roman Road Trio from Waycross will open up the celebration with a gospel sing at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Alapaha gym. A cake auction at intermission will benefit the celebration fund. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Arts and crafts will begin the morning of Nov. 8 in downtown Alapaha. At 10 a.m. Southern Gunslingers from Andersonville will present a western reenactment shoot-out followed by a parade beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will have floats, beauty queens, antique cars, a band and more. Grand Marshall for the parade will be Miss Georgia 2008, Chastity Hardman. She will also be singing and signing autographs following the parade.

There will be non-stop live entertainment featuring Todd Allen Herendeen and his “Follow That Dream Band” at 2 p.m., Daryle Singletary at 4 p.m., clogging groups and more.

A fireworks display sponsored by the Town of Alapaha will be downtown at 6 p.m. that night and a concert and street dance at 7 p.m.

The celebration will conclude with a community workshop service at 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Alapaha gym with Mark Swain, pastor of Cross Creek Baptist Church. Music will be provided by the celebration choir.
