TIFTON — The public is invited to meet artist Joseph A. Sullo from 5 until 7 p.m.. today at the Atlantic Coastline Artist Guild, 119 Love Ave. Sullo will have a selection of his oil paintings on display in the gallery for viewing during the “Greet the Artist” event.
Joe Sullo has been painting in oils for over 65 years, specializing in still life of both realistic and abstract interpretations. He is a graduate industrial designer of Pratt Institute in New York, and since his retirement as chief designer for a large New York engineering company, has expanded his art career with lectures, demonstrations and teaching.
Prior to relocation to Tifton, Sullo lived in New York where he held memberships in the Dutchess County Art Association, The Garrison Art Center, Middletown Art Club, Morris County Art Association and Flushing Art League. He was also a member of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists in Connecticut, and was an artist elect in the prestigious Kent Art Association.
Sullo has enjoyed lecturing while showing his museum quality work in one-man shows at the Ormond Beach Memorial Art Gallery, Daytona Museum of Art and Daytona Beach Community College in Florida. He has also exhibited at the Thrasher House in Ashburn, The Main Street Art Gallery in Pine Bush, N.Y., and the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, to name just a few.
His work has been part of many group exhibits including those in the Queens Museum, Kent Art Association Art Gallery, Ridgewood Art Institute, Bardavon Opera House, Hudson Valley Art Association, all in New York, as well as the Festival of the Masters at Lake Buena Vista, Disney World, Orlando, Fla.
Originally from Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Sullo continues to stay busy and is the Artist-in-Residence at the Southern Arts Gallery in Chula. He has a studio in his home where he teaches privately on a one-to-one basis. Although he has mastered many artistic techniques, he has devoted his energy to the art of still life painting in oils. He has always been conscious of the work of the human hand, and has found that still lifes allow him to honor the unheralded artists and craftsmen who have created the objects he immortalizes on his canvas compositions. Sullo, who has a son, two daughters, and two grandchildren, enjoys listening to musical standards, ballroom dancing and baking.
An award winning artist, Sullo is presently a member of the Atlantic Coastline Artists Guild and has shown work in the Guild’s art gallery, the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage, the Love Affair Festival in Tifton, at the Glynn Art Gallery, St. Simons Island, and in Cedar Key, Fla. His work is in many private collections and he holds listings in Who’s Who in the East (1981-82) and Who’s Who in American Art (1989).
