More than 40 percent of Tift voters vote in advance

TIFTON — Over 40 percent of Tift County’s registered voters had cast their ballots by 4 p.m. Friday, the last day to vote prior to Tuesday’s General Election.

“We had one day last week when 707 people voted,” said Jean Edwards, election supervisor.

There are 20,957 people in Tift County currently eligible to vote. At 4 p.m. Friday, those who had voted in advance and early voting and by absentee totaled over 9,000.

All polling places in the county will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday for the official General Election day.

Tift County’s polling site locations include: Tifton Northeast (in the old school gym at the corner of Fourth Street and Chesnutt Avenue); Brighton (869 Harold Tyson Road at its intersection with Old Ocilla Road); Brookfield (Brookfield Volunteer Fire Station, 983 Lower Brookfield Road); Chula (3372 U.S. Highway 41 N., white block building beside the fire station); Docia (14 Docia Road across from Excelsior Store on Ty Ty-Omega Road); Eldorado (4145 U.S. Highway 41 S. in the Eldorado Fire Station); Omega (Omega Club House, 5471 Alabama Drive off U.S. Highway 319 S.); Ty Ty (Ty Ty City Hall, 141 Elman St., Ty Ty, off U.S. Highway 82 W.); Tifton Northeast (Leroy Rogers Center, 315 W. Second St.); Tifton South (Neighborhood Service Center, 2731 S. Central Ave.); Mott-Litman Gym (2425 Emerson O. Bynes Ave.); and Tifton Lodge (1400 Kennedy Road).

Several local candidates seeking various offices could be seen out and about this week meeting and talking with constituents. On Friday, Rick Goddard (R-Warner Robins), congressional candidate for the District 8 seat in the U.S. House; Jim Martin, (D-Atlanta), candidate for United States Senate; and Jim Powell (D-Hiawassee), candidate for a seat on the Public Service Commission, each made stops downtown in Tifton Gardens.
