TIFTON — The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Friday that Norfolk Southern Railroad has scheduled crews to rework the railroad crossing on U.S. 82/S.R. 520 between Central Avenue and Commerce Way in Tifton.
Weather permitting, U.S. 82/S.R. 520 traffic will be detoured beginning at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The detour routes will be signed for adjacent streets as follows:
• Eastbound traffic will turn right (south) onto South Central Avenue, left (east) on to Ninth Street and then left (north) on Tift Avenue, back to SR 520/U.S. 82.
• Westbound traffic will turn right (north) on Commerce, left (west) onto Third street and then left (south) on South Central, back to SR 520/US 82.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and stay alert as they travel through this area and use alternate routes if possible.
