Numerous roads are closed in the region, some neighborhoods are being evacuated and shelters have been opened, authorities say.
The Tift County Sheriff's Office is going door to door to evacuate residents from Shephard's Mobile Home Park on U.S. Highway 319 North at Fletcher Road, says sheriff's spokesman David Haire.
There are numerous reports of flooding throughout local counties and most schools have been closed for Friday, including all public schools in Tift County.
The shelter locations are:
* First Methodist Church on 12th Street
* Ty Ty Baptist Church
* Neighborhood Service Center on South Central Avenue
Also, the city of Tifton reports problems with its lift station on South Central Avenue, causing sewer level issues.
As of 1:30 p.m., the following roads in Tifton and Tift County have been closed:
* 17th Street
* Abby Lane from West Golden Road to Regent Drive
* Clyatt Road from West Court Lane to Cromer Road
* Fordham Road from Highway 115 to Owen Medford Road
* Hunt Road from the curve to C&S; Drive
* U.S. Highway 319 in the Lake Say-Hi area
* Jacob Hall Road to Bowen-Ferry Lake Road
* Kent Road from Old Ocilla Road to Cypress Pond Assisted Living Center
* Pineview Avenue from 10th to 12th streets
* Tifton Eldorado Road from Highway 125 to Lower Brookfield Road
* Tifton Eldorado Road from Highway 41 to Willie Moore Road
* W.B. Parks Road from 911 tb 1639-1781
* Windy Hill Road to Atwater Road
* Jacob Hall Road between Harold Gibbs and Ferry Lake roads
* Richards Drive between Old Ocilla and Kent roads
Numerous roads also are closed in surrounding counties.
