TIFTON —
The Downtown Development Authority and representatives of the City of Tifton met Wednesday to discuss streetscape Improvements to the downtown Tifton area.
Lee Walton and Ron Huffman, representing MacTec Consulting, met with the groups at Giggles Cafe to discuss blueprints for the up-and-coming construction process. MacTec Consulting has been hired to help beautify the region.
The new construction process will include improved lighting, new landscaping, new sidewalks and improved signs in downtown Tifton.
“Our goal is to improve the downtown beautification process with the hopes of encouraging new people to bring their business into the downtown area,” Economic Development Director Lequrica Gaskins said.
The construction is being funded by three grants that have been received by downtown Tifton. Two of the grants, which total $1.3 million, will come from the Department of Transportation. An additional grant has been received from OSDA valued at $50,000.
Gaskins informed the Gazette Wednesday that anyone who wishes to locate a business in downtown Tifton should contact her office.
“That is what we do here in my office,” Gaskins said. “We will help you find a location and do what is right for your business.”
The Development Authority and the City of Tifton are still working together to set a date for the construction to begin.
“We are still working on the paperwork aspect of the process,” Gaskins said. “We have still yet to identify a date to begin construction.”
