TIFTON — Two Tifton girls were transported Tuesday afternoon to Tift Regional Medical Center, after being struck in the head by baseball bats.
Two women, Brittany Mathis and Rontresia Mathis, have been charged with aggravated assault in the case.
Tift County Sheriff’s Deputy Roy Gray responded to a 911 call concerning a group of females in the area of 23rd Street fighting with baseball bats. Gray arrived to find several people standing in the roadway arguing.
As he exited his patrol car, Lucretia Perry, age unknown, told him that she was hit with a wooden baseball bat in the back of her head by Brittany Mathis, 19.
Gray wrote that he was then approached by Lakisha Perry, age unknown, who informed him that she too had been struck in the head, but with a metal baseball bat. She identified Rontresia Mathis, 21, as her attacker.
The deputy checked the girl’s heads for signs of injury, and found large knots and blood to be present on both. Lucretia Perry was transported by EMS to Tift Regional Medical Center, and Lakisha Perry was transported to TRMC in a private vehicle. Both of them were released later that evening, according to a spokesman at TRMC.
Gray reported that three baseball bats were found on the scene in the car of Rontresia Mathis.
Other recent crime includes;
• The Tifton Police Department responded to a call Wednesday in reference to an entering auto at 113 Carolina Drive. Among items reportedly stolen was a Smith and Wesson 637 revolver in a brown leather case and valued at $400, a Kershaw lock blade knife valued at $75 and $3 in loose change.
• Flash Foods, 1002 W. Eighth Street, reported two separate cases of gas drive-offs on Wednesday. The complainant advised that a black male driving a gold Toyota Camry pumped 14 gallons of gas valued at $40.01, and left without paying. Later that day, Flash Foods reported a second drive-off. The complainant could not identify the person or the make or color of the car. The suspect was reported to have driven off after pumping $5 in gas. The complainant stated that she had no recollection of turning on the pumps.
