Blizzard of activity at Dairy Queen

TIFTON — If the steady stream of customers was any indication, the Tift Avenue Dairy Queen's "1/2 Off Everything!" Customer Appreciation Day Saturday was a success. Cars waiting for the drive through window service were wrapped around the restaurant and into the street multiple times during the day Saturday. Attempts to reach the store's manager by telephone met with a consistent busy signal Saturday

    Nicole Taylor, 20, is once again heading up her Water and Gatorade Drive this summer for local firefighters to fight heat exhaustion. The drive kicked off Monday and will continue until July 31.

    Tift County sergeants Keith Newell and Ryner Patrick with the Tift County Sheriff’s Office are now certified instructors for the Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety (C.H.A.M.P.S.) program after recently completing training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

  • BOE struggles under $5 million in state cuts; libraries to see $22,000 shortfall

    At Tuesday night’s regular Tift County Board of Education meeting, members passed the FY14 budget, which will be short more than $5 million from the state, causing local officials to cut student instructional days and funding from the school system’s media centers and regional and local libraries.
