TIFTON — Two local businesses, Vision Source and Howard Diet Center, were recognized and awarded the Small Business of the Month Award by the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce at their Thursday meeting. Also, during the meeting, Gary Monteith of Purchasing Alliance Solutions discussed the new health care law. Drive to help firefighters now under way
Nicole Taylor, 20, is once again heading up her Water and Gatorade Drive this summer for local firefighters to fight heat exhaustion. The drive kicked off Monday and will continue until July 31.

TCSO staff become C.H.A.M.P.S. certified

BOE struggles under $5 million in state cuts; libraries to see $22,000 shortfall
At Tuesday night’s regular Tift County Board of Education meeting, members passed the FY14 budget, which will be short more than $5 million from the state, causing local officials to cut student instructional days and funding from the school system’s media centers and regional and local libraries.

Long-time Meals on Wheels volunteer dies
A former Tift County teacher who was well-known for giving back to her community by serving as a long-time volunteer with the Tifton Meals on Wheels (MOW) program has died at the age of 93.
