TIFTON — Two local businesses, Vision Source and Howard Diet Center, were recognized and awarded the Small Business of the Month Award by the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce at their Thursday meeting. A Fitzgerald juvenile is currently on the loose in Turner County after he exited a Fitzgerald police car that stopped at Rite Aid on Washington Avenue.

Drive to help firefighters now under way

BOE struggles under $5 million in state cuts; libraries to see $22,000 shortfall
At Tuesday night’s regular Tift County Board of Education meeting, members passed the FY14 budget, which will be short more than $5 million from the state, causing local officials to cut student instructional days and funding from the school system’s media centers and regional and local libraries.
Long-time Meals on Wheels volunteer dies
A former Tift County teacher who was well-known for giving back to her community by serving as a long-time volunteer with the Tifton Meals on Wheels (MOW) program has died at the age of 93.
