TIFTON — The investigation into the April 22 wreck that killed Tifton police officer Terry Adams is not expected to be completed until January, according to an agent with the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team out of Valdosta.
Cpl. David Hermanowski said Tuesday that there are only six people on the SCRT team who investigate fatal vehicle wrecks in 42 counties, including Tift.
“I hope to have to have it completed some time in January,” Hermanowski said.
Hermanowski said in mid-May his unit had yet to interview several people who witnessed the wreck and once those interviews were conducted, toxicology results were in and all drawings of the incident were complete, his unit would make a determination and turn the case over to District Attorney Paul Bowden.
Adams, 38, of Ty Ty, was a seven-year veteran of the Tifton Police Department. He was riding his patrol motorcycle on Tift Avenue when it collided with a truck driven by Shawn McCaffity, 40, of Enigma. Hermanowski has said that Adams was headed south on Tift Avenue (Georgia Highway 125) and was passing traffic in the turn lane on his way to another call when the collision with the truck occurred. Hermanowski said McCaffity was pulling into Tift Avenue out of the parking lot of a business across from the Dairy Queen when the collision occurred. McCaffity was injured by the wreck.
