Events to be held to raise money for Motorcade

Special to The Gazette

TIFTON — Several events are planned to raise funds for the annual Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade that purchases Christmas gifts for patients at Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville. The gifts purchased are often the only gifts patients from the 18-county region will receive for Christmas.

The annual Christmas Motorcade Yard Sale will be held from 7 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Tifton Welcome Station at the corner of Main Street and U.S. Highway 82 West. Tables can be reserved for $10 by calling Sherry Herrington at 391-3937. Organizers will also be glad to accept old goods or donations from anyone. Palm trees will also be sold at the yard sale. Small palms (4-8 ft.) will be sold for $5 and larger palms (9-12 ft.) will be sold for $10.

On Dec. 5, during Tifton’s Hometown Holidays celebration, people can have their photographs taken with Santa for $5 each. Santa will be on the stage in the area of Kanebo Park across from LaCabana restaurant.

Raffle tickets for a kayak equipped with a helmet and paddle are being sold for $2 each and tickets for a chance to win a boy’s or girl’s bicycle are $1. The drawing for the winners will be held Dec. 18. The items can be viewed at Tifton City Hall from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily.

Pizza night at Papa John’s will be held on Nov. 13 and Nov. 27. The Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade will receive a percentage of sales for those days when people ordering designate that their order should benefit the cause.

Organizers said the Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade Committee appreciates the community’s support and reminds everyone that we are all touched in some way by mental illness, physical disabilities and drug and alcohol abuse.
