VALDOSTA — Ten people were shot and one killed in an incident in the Hudson Dockett area of Valdosta Sunday evening, say police.
The shooting took place around 6 p.m. in the area of 807 South Fry Street, which is the location of Hudson Dockett Apartments, said police Capt. Bobbi McGraw.
The shooting took place outside of the apartment complex. A crowd was gathered in the area of the shooting, she said. An argument “may or may not” have been involved, McGraw said.
Ten victims were taken to area hospitals, McGraw said in a press release.
The shooting fatality’s name was not immediately released because authorities were contacting the next of kin, she said.
He was identified Monday as Sidney Bivins Jr., 19, of Valdosta.
Bivens was a 2008 graduate of Valdosta High School and played football for the Valdosta Wildcats during his tenure at VHS.
Detectives, crime scene technicians and K-9 units were involved in the investigation, McGraw said.
Late Sunday, police were talking to the shooting victims but were unsure about how many suspects were involved, she said. The motive had not been established, McGraw said.
Police have leads on one suspect and are looking into the possibility of there being several suspects, she said.
Two people remained hospitalized Monday and the rest had been treated and released. Of the people shot, three were juveniles. The juveniles appeared to have non-life- threatening wounds.
