TIFTON — The first of what organizers hope will be an annual event, the Eldorado Farmer’s Festival will be held Nov. 28.
Ervin Hill said he was approached by a man who asked him why the community, tucked along I-75 and U.S. Highway 41, didn’t have a festival honoring the farmers who have contributed so much to the town that was established in 1888.
“The festival is to recognize and thank all the farmers and what they have done for us,” Hill said.
Hill wrote a poem “The American Farmer” to show his gratitude.
Hill is creating a festival bulletin with advertisements from businesses and families, who wish to remember or honor members of their farming families, and church pages. He said approximately 25 arts and crafts and food vendors have already committed to the festival. A parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and various entertainers will perform during the day.
“I believe the festival will grow,” Hill said.
“We hope this is a seed Ervin’s planted that will grow and grow,” said Donald Adcock. Adcock’s 1949 8N tractor sits parked in a recreation area between U.S. Highway 41 and the railroad tracks for people to enjoy.
Hill said Tyron Spearman will emcee the event and has committed to cook “Elvis Presley sandwiches” — peanut butter and banana sandwiches that are toasted.
The cost to vendors who participate in the festival is $30. Anyone wishing to be a vendor or participate in the parade may call Hill at 388-5333.
