TIFTON —
A horseback trail ride will be held June 12 in Norman Park to benefit The Georgia Sheriff’s Association Boy’s Ranch. The entry fee for the trail ride is $35 and many events such as hay rides, a live band and camping are planned for the day.
The Georgia Sheriff’s Association Boys Ranch is dedicated to creating an outdoor setting to help mold a generation of well-rounded youth. All proceeds from the ride will go to benefit the Sheriff’s Association.
“We are just trying to help these children be the best they can be,” Mindy Prator, event coordinator, said. “I am a retired police officer so I know that the more we can help these kids now, the better off they will be later.”
The event will be held at 1121 Ga. Highway 256, Soggy Bottom Ranch, owned by Lewis Hurst of Norman Park. There are multiple trails to ride and guests can either go with a guide, or on their own.
“We are going to have all the trails marked,” Prator said. “We are taking all cautionary measures to ensure that nobody gets lost if they go out by themselves.”
In addition to the horseback riding, there will also be a hay ride held at 2 p.m. and the Todd Williams Band will start playing at 5 p.m. The tractor-pulled hay ride will cost $8 and will include a meal. The Todd Williams Band show will be included in the entry fee for those who participate in the trail ride and $10 for all others.
“We are going to serve lunch and dinner and then give participants the opportunity to eat and get cleaned up before the band starts,” Prator said. “I know that some people will not want to go on the ride, but everyone is still invited to come out and see the band.”
Participants are invited to take advantage of free camping for the night and a limited number of horses will be available to rent for those who do not have their own. Anyone who wishes to attend the event is asked to register by June 5 so that a sufficient amount of food can be supplied.
Restrooms will be available on site but there are no showers on the ranch. Guests are asked to not bring any glass bottles or pets that might spook the horses.

The first ride will begin at 10 a.m.
