SAVANNAH — Rough seas expected off Georgia from hurricane

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The National Weather Service is warning of some rough conditions off the Georgia coast in the Savannah area from Hurricane Earl.

NWS meteorologist Steve Rowley told the Savannah Morning News that swells generated by the storm will create rough seas and treacherous rip currents throughout the day on Thursday.

Weather service meteorologist Bob Bright says waves crashing along the Tybee Island shore are expected to be from 6 feet to 9 feet and will be accompanied by rip currents that can easily place a swimmer in danger.

Bright adds that the weather service issued a high-surf advisory that is in effect until Friday morning. He says rough seas are expected through Friday afternoon.
