Bulldog fans may have to leave keg at home

ATHENS — Bulldog fans may have to tone it down a little this year.

The University of Georgia began enforcing its new tailgating rules during Saturday's first home football game. The university has banned many of the staple items used by fans before games from the historic North Campus: tents, tables, kegs, grills and generators.

Fans are allowed to tailgate with such items on other parts of campus.

The move is meant to prevent fans from trashing North Campus, which was covered in about 70 tons of garbage, tents and grills after the first football game last year. UGA officials say fans even urinated on buildings and defecated outside.

The new rules have upset alumni and students, who use North Campus as a hub for pre-game activities.
