TIFTON —
The third annual “Sock It to ‘em With Love” Sock Drive for local children in need, headed by Tift County Commissioner Melissa Chevers, begins Monday and will continue through Feb. 8.
Donations of new children’s socks will be distributed through the Tifton Housing Authority and the Department of Family and Children Services.
New children’s socks can be dropped off at the following sites: the Charles A. Kent Administration Building (Tift County Commissioner’s office), Solomon Nixon Funeral Home and Eagles Wings Judah Worship Center on Southern Avenue.
A fun event with food and music is planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Copeland Park on Southern Avenue.
Chevers said the main idea for this event is for people in the community to come out and have “a good time.”
Also, Amerigroup Real Solutions is partnering with Chevers on this event. They will discuss health and benefits and will give out information to the community, Chevers said. She noted that the group will also be donating some socks.
Chevers has had great success with her recent “Keep ‘em Warm” Coat Drive, and she’s hoping her sock drive does the same.
“This year, we pray it is bigger and better,” she said.
For more information, contact Chevers at 326-0241.
