TIFTON —
Flooded roads were evident in Tift County Saturday as the rain continued to come down, following Friday’s downpour. The heavy rain led to six people having to be evacuated from their homes between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough told The Gazette shortly after 6 p.m. that two mobile homes in the area of Doc Melton Sr. Drive and Highway 41 were surrounded by water. The Tift County Emergency Management Agency, assisted by Tift County deputies, helped the families walk safely through the 3 feet of water. No one was injured, Scarbrough said. He also noted that water was not believed to have entered the two homes.
Vickie Hickman, deputy director for Tift County’s EMA, said Saturday afternoon that the flooding in Tift County was localized, and the water was running off “pretty good.”
As of 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Tift County received 2.68 inches of rain, according to the rain gauge at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station. There was only 0.92 inches of rain for the month of January. As of midnight Friday, there has been 10.68 inches of rain for the month of February, according to the Coastal Plain Experiment Station. Other areas have had up to 14 or 15 inches of rain unofficially.
Scarbrough provided The Gazette with the following list on the most recent updated closed roads that the EMA was aware of at this time:
• Babe Hall Road between Lower Brookfield Road and Highway 125 South
• Intersection of Highway 41 South and Doc Melton Sr. Drive
• Intersection of Chesnutt Avenue and East Sixth Street
• Entrance to Cypress Ridge Subdivision (the back gate is open for through traffic)
• Highway 41 South between Oakridge Church Road and Tifton-Eldorado Road
• Sutton Circle at Robert Oliver Road
• Sutton Circle at Highway 319 North
• Old Brookfield Road at the two bridges

Tifton man arrested in marijuana sting
The Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, along with the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant May 7 on the residence of 36-year-old Daniel Eubanks, located at 905 36th Street in Tifton. The search warrant was served as part of a joint investigation with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office into Eubanks' marijuana distribution.
