TIFTON —
James Alton Hudgins, 58, a longtime resident of Tifton, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at his daughter’s residence. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of All Faiths at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with the Rev. Randall Gay officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.
Mr. Hudgins was born Dec. 28, 1953 in Tifton to the late Floyd Dalvin Hudgins and Sujette Peacock Hudgins of Tifton. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and he earned his master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University. He was the intramural sports director at ABAC, where he also had coached women’s volleyball and women’s tennis, and was the 1998 Region 17 Coach of the Year for women’s volleyball and the Region 17 Coach of the Year for women’s tennis in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Mr. Hudgins enjoyed playing golf, listening to music and watching the University of Georgia Bulldogs play football. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Hudgins is survived by his children, Andy Hudgins of Lawrenceville; Katie and Mike Perri of Tifton and Michael Hudgins of Lawrenceville; his granddaughter, Reagan Perri of Tifton; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy H. and James Moody of Moultrie and Joann H. and Van Davis of Meadowview, Va.; three nephews; and a niece.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ABAC Foundation, ABAC 13 - 2802 Moore Highway, Tifton, Ga. 31793, in memory of Alton Hudgins.
