TIFTON — Funeral services for Inez Arlene Lawson Sharpe, 89, of Tifton will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Springfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. R.L. Drake and the Rev. Gilbert Weston officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery in Crosland.
Born March 31, 1920 in Crosland to the late Simuel and Willie Lee Miller Lawson, Mrs. Sharpe was educated in the public schools of Colquitt County, and graduated from Moultrie Colored High School in 1938. Mrs. Sharpe attended Albany State College, and later moved to New York City to live and work. She returned to Georgia to further her education at Fort Valley State College, graduating in the class of 1957.
She pursued her teaching career in Damascus, Homerville, Jesup, Worth County and Tifton. After 35 years and four months of teaching in the public schools, she continued to teach in the Tifton Headstart program and substitute teach with Tift County Public Schools.
As a very active and supportive member the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, Inez served in Announcements Ministry and many other roles as needed. Inez had a hobby of shopping, shopping and more shopping.
Mrs. Sharpe leaves to cherish her loving memories; her daughter, Pearlie S. McKnight of Atlanta; a loving grandson and his wife, Marco and Nikki Sharpe of Conyers; two loving great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Halee Sharpe; her best friend, William C. Sharpe; loved ones, Damien and Milla Nease McKnight , Eugene Bryant; devoted cousins, Savannah and Freddie Weston, Marvolene Brinson, Betty Jean Bryant and Jeanette Burks; good neighbors, Maggie Ree Copeland, Ora D. Bollen, Arlene Gibson and Leanna Bush; and many other loving relatives and friends.
