Cecil Hulet Frederick, 88, of Tifton, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Oakridge Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Webb officiating. Mr. Frederick’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 15, 1924, in Cocoa, Fla., to the late Croel Lesser Frederick and Irene Pridgeon Frederick Sinclair, Mr. Frederick was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother-in-law, Doris and Charlie Robinson of Montezuma.
Mr. Frederick graduated from Macon County High School in 1941 after which he served in the United States Army in WWII in the European Theatre of Operations where he fought in many battles. He also served as a sergeant major in the Tifton National Guard from 1956-1981 and the Macon National Guard from 1982-1984. In 1950, Mr. Frederick graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in education. He was formerly employed at the Tifton Vocational School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tifton as well as the Tifton Masonic Lodge where he held various offices. Mr. Frederick enjoyed the Atlanta Braves and he was generally a sports fan. He also enjoyed and loved his grandchildren.
Mr. Frederick is survived by his wife, Shirley Steele Frederick of Tifton; one daughter and one son-in-law, Dr. Candace and Jay Vaughn of Centerville; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Julia Frederick of Danielsville and Scott and Candice Frederick of Clarksville; and his grandchildren, Calla Vaughn, Sterling Vaughn, Channing Vaughn, Raina Vaughn, Alden Vaughn, Ashley Frederick, Drew Frederick, Shelby Frederick, Kristen Frederick, Kevin Frederick, Collin Frederick, Caroline Frederick, Hannah Frederick, and Karissa Frederick.
