Russell Connell, 79, of Ashburn, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Ashburn First Baptist Church.
Mr. Connell was born in Nashville, the son of the late Carl and Estelle Parker Connell. He was a retired Ford tractor dealer. He was a member of Ashburn First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Gilbert Branch Sunday School Class and had served on numerous church committees. He was a former Ashburn city councilman and was a member of Sycamore Masonic Lodge #210.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Terry Connell in 1958; one daughter, Judy C. Moody in 2001; and one sister, Shelba Jean Connell.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie McCranie Connell of Ashburn; two daughters, Diane C. Lott of Ashburn and Kim C. (Todd) Applewhite of Chula; and his grandchildren, Jason Lott, Kellie Lott, Matt (Nikki) Moody, Lauren Moody, Abby Applewhite and Alysa Lott. He is also survived by two brothers, J.T. “Pete” (Alma) Connell of Tifton and Raymond (Angie) Connell of Enigma; one sister, Jacqueline C. Sellers of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Perry Funeral Chapel, Ashburn.
