CHULA — Maxine Brickle Gibson, 75, of Chula, died at her home Nov. 20, 2012 after an extended illness which she endured with dignity and grace. At that hour, she was made whole again and was met at the gates of Heaven by Jesus with whom she placed her enduring faith.

Services for Mrs. Gibson will be held in the First Baptist Church of Chula Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chad Hall Officiating.  A private family burial will be at Tift Memorial Gardens.  

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Gibson was born on June 29, 1937 in Cook County to Harry Lafayette Brickle and Annie Mae Stivender Brickle, both deceased.  Until illness overcame her physical abilities, Maxine lived a full and rewarding life, helping and touching all of those with whom she came in contact. She loved gardening and would spend hours working with care in her flowers. She shared with her children that she felt close to God when she was in her garden.  She loved to cook and thought the presentation was as important as the taste, and she was well known for her culinary abilities.  She was creative and loved to exhibit her creative passions from designing and sewing clothing and costumes to doing oil paintings, a gift she passed on to her four children. Maxine loved her family, her community and her church. She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Chula for over 20 years, and worked to ensure that the youth activities were as fun and rewarding as if they were Broadway productions.  In addition to her parents, Maxine is also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Brickle and Bobby Brickle.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Daniel D. Gibson of Chula.  They were true partners in every sense of the word.  They lived and enjoyed life’s pleasures, as well as its struggles. During the early days and years of Gibson & Gibson Electric, Inc., she served as secretary and bookkeeper, a job that she was educated for and one in which she performed with precision, pride and accuracy.  

She is also survived by her four children and six grandchildren, Danny and Terri Gibson of Macon and their children, Betsy and Ben Couch of Brooklyn, N.Y. and DeKalb Gibson of Atlanta; Brian and Judith Gibson of Tifton and their children, Ryan and Misty Gibson of New York, N.Y., Dusty and Cari Gibson of Atlanta, Daniel Gibson and Melissa Gibson, both of Tifton; Jeffrey Alan Gibson of Macon, and Dana and Clayton Foster of Tifton; one brother, Leon Brickle of Tequesta, Fla.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Trudy Haley of Tifton, Willa and John Inman of Albany and Wilhelmina and Buddy Talley of Chula; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Brickle of Waycross and Juanita Brickle of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of those who have been so kind to them during this time of illness and confinement, especially her friends, church family, health care providers and Southern Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Chula, 30 Academy Drive, Chula, Ga. 31733 or the charity of their choice.
