Thelma Carr Daughtrey

LENOX — Thelma Voncile Carr Daughtrey, 78, of Lenox died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Lenox First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Robinson and the Rev. Shane Ashley officiating. Burial was held at Staunton Cemetery in Lenox.

Grandsons, grandsons-in-law and Mike Owens served as pallbearers. Members of the Senior Adult Sunday school class of Lenox First Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

Born Sept. 6, 1934 in Tift County to the late Columbus Wiley Carr and Annie Maude Hester Carr, Mrs. Daughtrey was also preceded in death by four brothers, Aubrey Carr, Howard Carr, Judson Carr and Marvin Carr; and five sisters, Sallie Bryan, Stella Webb, Neomia Earn, Carrie Dunn and Leecie Jones.

Mrs. Daughtrey taught at Lenox Elementary School for many years and retired from Cook County Elementary School. She earned a two-year degree from Norman Junior College and then graduated from Valdosta State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a six-year education certificate. Mrs. Daughtrey enjoyed sewing, traveling and family reunions. She loved raising her children and she loved her family. She was a member of Lenox First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Daughtrey is survived by her husband of 59 years, Horace Eugene “Gene” Daughtrey of Lenox; her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Anita Daughtrey of Lenox; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Thomas of Pinedale, Wyo.; her grandchildren, “L’il” Tommy and Michelle Daughtrey, Heather and Kenneth Meeler, Jennifer and Bryan Taylor, Laura Daughtrey, Jessica Thomas, Terry Thomas and Karmen and B. J. Mervine; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters and brother-in-law, Juanita and Joe Graham of Warner Robins and Margaret Belflower of Macon; her sisters-in-law, Ruby Carr of Tifton, Reba Nell Carr of Tifton, Jackie Daughtrey of Tifton and Joyce Daughtrey of Lenox; and many nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lenox First Baptist Church Building Fund, 255 W. Clements Ave., Lenox, Ga. 31637.
