James H. ‘Gabby’ Hayes

OCILLA — James H. “Gabby” Hayes, 74, of Ocilla, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Frank Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Edward McIntyre will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.

Mr. Hayes was born June 17, 1931, in Winfield, Ala., to the late Jonas Jackson and Eunice Springer Hayes. He lived in Irwin County since 1953, retiring in 1985 as Service Manager for Irwin County Motor Company, where he had worked for 32 years. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Frank Primitive Baptist Church.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Wright Hayes of Ocilla; a daughter, Wanda Hayes-Bryant of Ocilla; two sons, James Anthony “Tony” Hayes of Ocilla and Steven (Sue) Hayes of Baxley; seven grandchildren, Brandi (Rusty) Merritt, Russ Bryant, Michael (Amber) Hayes, Cristy (Seth) Taylor, Matthew Hayes, Jake Hayes and Tonya Hayes; six great grandchildren, James Allen Bryant, Morgan Bryant, Lauren Merritt, Leslie Merritt, Slater Hayes and Madelyn Taylor; three brothers, Fred (Dot) Hayes of Birmingham, Ala., Thurman (Doris) Hayes of Fayette, Ala., and Rabon (Sheila) Hayes of Macon, Miss.

Wiley Jefferson Milliones

DUBLIN — Wiley Jefferson Milliones, 77, of Tifton, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in the Carl Vinson Memorial VA Hospital in Dublin.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Milliones was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Lowndes County to Bill Milliones and Florence Jewell Milliones, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Milliones, and one grandchild.

Mr. Milliones had lived in Tifton for the last 30 years and was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran for 26 years, serving in Vietnam with the 21st Airborne Division. He worked at Heatcraft in Tifton for 22 years.

Mr. Milliones is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Milliones of Tifton; three sons, Michael Wayne Milliones, Scott Bryan Milliones and Mark Jaison Milliones, all of Tifton; one daughter, Cynthia Willene Milliones of Virginia; and nine grandchildren.

Lee Roy Newbern Sr.

TIFTON — Lee Roy Newbern Sr., 80, of Tifton, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Landmark Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Wright and the Rev. Bobby Rodgers will officiate.

David Kendrick, Larry Heard, Kevin Lasseter, Grady Fowler, Jason Connell and Stacy Lasseter will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Newbern was born on Aug. 6, 1925, in Sparks. He was the son of Benjamin Newbern and Janie Young Newbern, both deceased.

Mr. Newbern was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Fowler Newbern, who died in 1997, and two brothers, Odis and Austin Newbern.

He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church and had lived in Tift County most of his life.

He was a textile worker and was later employed by the Tift County Board of Education in the bus maintenance department.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike and Angie Newbern of Sycamore, and Terry Newbern and Roy Newbern, both of Tifton; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Roy Lasseter of Tifton; one brother, Virgil Newbern of Tifton; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
