Roger Lonnie Barfield Sr.

TIFTON — Roger Lonnie “R.L.” Barfield Sr., 82, of Tifton, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Chris Ramsey will officiate with burial to follow at Mount Paron Baptist Church Cemetery in Alapaha.

Grandsons Roger Lonnie Barfield III and James Barfield, and nephews Wayne Howell, Philip Laminack, Aaron Swanson and Cole Burgess will serve as pallbearers. Nephews and great-nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Barfield was born on Jan. 10, 1925, in Irwin County and was the son of Ruel Elijah Barfield and Roxie Harper Barfield, both deceased. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII, receiving a Purple Heart and three battle stars. Mr. Barfield worked in the furniture business for many years, owning and operating Barfield Furniture Company for 30 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mr. Barfield is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mamie Stephens Barfield of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Lonnie Jr. and Kay Barfield of Cumming and James Ronald and Martha Barfield of Woodstock; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and Tommy Lindsey of Tifton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gerald and Carolyn Barfield of Tifton and Charles Barfield of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and J.C. Howell of Brookfield; grandchildren and their spouses, Alexis and Aaron Swanson of Dacula, Roger Lonnie Barfield III of Tifton, Elizabeth and Philip Laminack of Athens, James Barfield of Woodstock, Leigh Ann Lindsey of Valdosta and Lauren Lindsey of Tifton; and one great-grandchild, Nate Swanson of Dacula.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 71, Tifton, GA 31793.

John Perry Sinkhorn

SUMNER — John Perry Sinkhorn, 49, of Sumner, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in Sumner. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Walter Powell will officiate. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Sinkhorn was born on May 24, 1957, in Brunswick. He was the son of John Lee Sinkhorn and Esther Perry Sinkhorn, both of Brunswick. Mr. Sinkhorn was a social worker for the State of Georgia. He is also survived by his wife, Nancy Conklin Sinkhorn of Sumner and a sister, Elizabeth Kelly.

Mary Frances Rowe

ALAPAHA — Mary Frances Rowe, 78, of Alapaha, died early Monday morning, Feb. 19, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Stone, the Rev. Jackie Connell and the Elder Robert Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville.

Mrs. Rowe was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Berrien County. She was the daughter of Albert Hardy Gaskins and Lilla Bell Bradford Gaskins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an older sister, Irene, who died at age 8.

Mrs. Rowe is survived by a daughter, Joyce Anne Rowe Jones and her husband, Carlton Ellis Jones; a granddaughter, Lauren Frances Jones Moffitt and her husband, Clifton Moffit; and a granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Jones, all of Hahira. She is also survived by a brother, Albert Harvey Gaskins and his wife, Clara Steverson Gaskins, of Alapaha; a sister, Gloria Annett Gaskins Ferrell and her husband, Mallory Hope Ferrell Jr., of Peachtree City; her nieces, Brenda Irene Gaskins Thornton and her husband, Dannie Thornton, Sandra Frances Gaskins Starling and her husband, Jimmy Starling; her nephews, Stephen Harvey Gaskins and his wife, Yvette Turner Gaskins, Eric Bradford Ferrell and his wife, Susan Scott Ferrell; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and church family members. She is also survived by friends and students from her many years of teaching who also enjoyed and benefited from her love, care and nurturing.

Frances Webb Greene

SPARKS — Frances Webb Greene, 82, of Sparks, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Brushy Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Springhill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Greene was born on May 30, 1924, in Cook County. She was the daughter of David Aaron and Vida Tyson Webb, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Levi Greene; one half-brother, Rob Webb; and four half-sisters, Bessie Stripling, Mattie Faircloth, Etta Bell Reed and Ida Dove. She lived most of her life in Cook County and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Freida and Earl Joiner of Sparks and Sandra Greene and Vince Bruttomesso of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Christy and Robert Garcia, Toni and Louis Holder, Earl and Nancy Joiner, Timmy and Carol Rayle, Lee and Brandi Bruttomesso and Joey Bruttomesso; and 16 great-grandchildren.

William H. Rowe

ALAPAHA — William H. “Buddy” Rowe, 80, of Alapaha, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Berrien County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Flat Creek Church. The Rev. Gary James, the Rev. Mickey Lindsey and the Rev. Mark Swain will officiate. Burial will follow at Flat Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Rowe was born on Nov. 12, 1926, in Berrien County. He was the son of Luther Rowe and Pearl McNabb Rowe, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Eston Rowe. He was a member of Flat Creek Church and retired service manager, having worked for Howard Webb, John Chambliss and Bo Lovein Ford. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Hendley Rowe of Alapaha; two daughters, Judie (Ronald) Rowland of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Glenda Braswell of Alapaha; a brother, Dorian Rowe of Statesboro; five grandchildren, Michael (Renee) Rowland of Rincon, Kimberly (Steve) McMillan of Nashville, Tim Rowland of Thomasville, Kay (John) Townsend of Parrish, Fla., and Jackie (Jimmy) Sparks of Alapaha; and great-grandchildren, Drew and Jackson Sparks, Emilie Rowland and Mark McMillan.
