TIFTON— Albert Elijah Denby, 79, of Tifton died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at the Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with speaker John Ruberson. Burial will follow at Cumorah Cemetery in Douglas.
Pallbearers will include Gary Coker, Tony Coker, Michael Shawn Merritt, Terry Flanigan, Michael Bohannon and Charles Adams.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Denby was born Oct. 14, 1928 in Omega, to James Berry and Redie Alma Morris Denby, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Jordan Denby.
Mr. Denby worked for Jones Concrete for 30 years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints.
Mr. Denby is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie V. and Lewis Dean of Tifton; one grandson and his wife, Tyrone and Zoe Heath Dean; two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Ann Dean and Norah Kate Dean; one brother, Ed Denby of Atlanta; two sisters, Ester Lee Yown of Monticello, Fla., and Retha Baker of Thomasville and a dear friend, Frances Wisham of Tifton.

ALBANY— Margaret Lucy McLendon McCartney, 83, formerly of Tifton and longtime resident of Albany, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with burial to follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. Ches Smith III will officiate.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. McCartney was born June 30, 1925 in Berrien County to Marion Wesley McLendon and Millie Lucyann Hancock McLendon, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Thomas McCartney Jr.; four sisters, Georgia Martin-Vegue, Verna Alderman, Mary Kate Duke, Dora Alderman; and three brothers, Roger, Melvin and Jack McLendon.
During World War II, Mrs. McCartney worked with the War Rationing Board and later the Postal Service. She worked with Georgia Power Co. and was a bookkeeper for several years. She also was very active in real estate in the Albany area. Mrs. McCartney was a longtime member of Sherwood Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Thomas and Irene Smith McCartney III; grandchildren, Margaret Ann “Maggie,” Katherine Irene, Thomas Lamar and James Wesley, all of Conroe, Texas; brother-in-law, Nicholas Wright McCartney; sister-in-law, Miriam McCartney Cauthen, both of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
