Willis
NOVA SCOTIA, Canada — Clyde Willis, 71, of Upper Port LaTour, Shelburne Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and he was stationed at radar sites in Alaska, Nova Scotia, Canada, England, Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Cape Charles, Va.
He was born Feb. 9, 1937 in Brookfield to the late Ralph and Leila Woods Willis. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Allen and sister, Louise.
Clyde was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church and the Philadelphia Masonic Lodge in Barrington. As a bus driver, Clyde enjoyed driving all the children to school. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a friend to all.
He is survived by his wife, Nema Lowe; son and his wife, Tom and Carolyn Willis of Upper Port LaTour; daughter and her husband, Jane and John Doucette of Darling’s Lake, Yarmouth Co.; brothers and their spouses, Edward and Sarah Willis and Kenneth and Jean Willis, all of Brookfield; sister and her husband, Brenda and Tommy Payne of Knoxville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Jordan, Nicholas, Jacob, Tommy, Silas.
Visitation was held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in H. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in H. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel. Pastor Sim Rushton officiated. Burial followed at the Parkdale Cemetery in Upper Port LaTour. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. ALBANY— Margaret Lucy McLendon McCartney, 83, formerly of Tifton and longtime resident of Albany, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with burial to follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. Ches Smith III will officiate.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. McCartney was born June 30, 1925 in Berrien County to Marion Wesley McLendon and Millie Lucyann Hancock McLendon, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Thomas McCartney Jr.; four sisters, Georgia Martin-Vegue, Verna Alderman, Mary Kate Duke, Dora Alderman; and three brothers, Roger, Melvin and Jack McLendon.
During World War II, Mrs. McCartney worked with the War Rationing Board and later the Postal Service. She worked with Georgia Power Co. and was a bookkeeper for several years. She also was very active in real estate in the Albany area. Mrs. McCartney was a longtime member of Sherwood Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Thomas and Irene Smith McCartney III; grandchildren, Margaret Ann “Maggie,” Katherine Irene, Thomas Lamar and James Wesley, all of Conroe, Texas; brother-in-law, Nicholas Wright McCartney; sister-in-law, Miriam McCartney Cauthen, both of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.

OCILLA — Bertha Howell Roberts, 96, of Ocilla, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church in Ocilla with great-grandson, Jeremy Drawdy officiating. A eulogy will be given by Mrs. Roberts' granddaughter, Vickie Drawdy. Burial will follow at Frank Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Roberts was born April 27, 1912 in Bleckley County to the late Oscar and Minnie Collins Howell. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. Hughe Roberts; four brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker and lived in the Irwin County community most of her life. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Ladies' Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-love, Marion and Linda Roberts and Oscar and Janis Roberts, all of Ocilla; daughters and sons-in-love, Viviette and Harold Walker and Gwen and Harmon Davis, all of Ocilla; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Roberts of Clinton, Tenn., Ella Wetherington of Valdosta, Sally and Tom Rowell of Fitzgerald and Florence and Roy Touchstone of Jacksonville, Fla., as well as several nieces and nephews.
