TIFTON — Hazel Whittington Tucker Massey, 90, of Tifton died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at Southern Care Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Ramsey, the Rev. B.J. Funk and the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating and with burial to follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Massey was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Berrien County and was the daughter of William B. Whittington and Annie Pearl Fletcher Whittington, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester “Turk” Massey, who died in 1984; son, Rayburn Tucker; four brothers; and one sister. She was a retired school teacher of 35 years and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. During her life, she received many honors for her work in God’s name.
Mrs. Massey is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Faye Massey of Tifton; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Larry Railey of Enigma; two brothers, Paul Whittington of Omega and Lewis Whittington of Fort Meade, Fla.; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael E. and Becky Massey of Tifton; Michele and Rick Stallings of Tifton; Teresa Lynette and Marlin Dettwyler of Dallas, Zack and Rachel Hurst Railey of Enigma; and great-grandcildren, Faith Railey, Will Railey, Leigh Ann Dettwyler, Audrey Dettwyler, Emily Dettwyler, Moriah Dettwyler, Zackery Weeks, Joe Potash, Emily Potash, Kiplyn Massey Gill, Sara Beth Massey, Jonathon Stallings, Jenna Harris, Ricky Stallings, Josh Poole, Wayne Stallings, Kristin Stallings and Allyson Stallings.
